Butterfly check valve refers to a valve that automatically opens and closes the valve disc based on the flow of the medium itself to prevent backflow of the medium. It is also known as a non-return valve, one-way valve, reverse flow valve, or back pressure valve. Check valves are a type of automatic valve whose main function is to prevent medium backflow, prevent pump and drive motor reversal, and release container medium. Check valves can also be used in pipelines that supply auxiliary systems where the pressure may exceed the system pressure. Check valves can be mainly divided into swing check valves (rotating based on the center of gravity), lift check valves (moving along the axis), and butterfly check valves (rotating around the center).

Product function:

The function of the butterfly check valve is to allow the medium to flow in only one direction and prevent reverse flow. Typically, this type of valve operates automatically. Under the pressure of fluid flowing in one direction, the valve disc opens; when the fluid flows in the reverse direction, the fluid pressure and the self-weight of the valve disc act on the valve seat, thereby cutting off the flow.

Structural features:

Butterfly check valves include swing check valves and lift check valves. Swing check valves have a hinge mechanism and a disc that rests freely against the inclined valve seat surface. To ensure that the disc reaches the proper position on the valve seat each time, the disc is designed with a hinge mechanism to provide sufficient swing space and ensure full contact with the valve seat. The disc can be made entirely of metal or embedded with leather, rubber, or synthetic covers, depending on performance requirements. In the open state, swing check valves offer almost no resistance to fluid pressure, resulting in a relatively small pressure drop across the valve. The disc of a lift check valve sits on the sealing surface of the valve seat in the valve body. Except for the freely lifting disc, the rest of the valve is similar to a globe valve. Fluid pressure lifts the disc from the valve seat sealing surface, and medium backflow causes the disc to fall back onto the valve seat, cutting off the flow. Depending on the application, the disc can be an all-metal structure or have rubber pads or rings embedded in the disc frame. Like globe valves, the flow path through lift check valves is narrow, so the pressure drop is greater than that of swing check valves, and swing check valves have fewer flow restrictions. This type of valve should generally be installed horizontally in pipelines.

According to its structure and installation method, it can be divided into:

1. The disc of the butterfly check valve is disc-shaped and rotates around the axis of the valve seat channel. Because the internal channel is streamlined, the flow resistance is smaller than that of lift butterfly check valves, making it suitable for large-diameter applications with low flow rates and infrequent flow changes. However, it is not suitable for pulsating flow, and its sealing performance is inferior to that of lift check valves. Butterfly check valves are divided into single-disc, double-disc, and multi-disc types, mainly categorized by valve diameter to reduce hydraulic impact when the medium stops flowing or reverses.

2. Butterfly check valve: According to the working form of the disc, it is divided into two types: 1. Check valves where the disc slides along the vertical centerline of the valve body. Butterfly check valves can only be installed on horizontal pipelines. For high-pressure small-diameter check valves, the disc can be a sphere. The valve body shape of the butterfly check valve is the same as that of a globe valve (interchangeable with globe valves), so its fluid resistance coefficient is large. Its structure is similar to that of a globe valve, with the same valve body and disc. The upper part of the disc and the lower part of the valve cover are machined with guide sleeves. The disc guide sleeve can freely move up and down within the valve cover guide sleeve. When the medium flows forward, the disc opens under medium thrust; when the medium stops flowing, the disc falls onto the valve seat by its own weight to prevent medium backflow. Straight-through butterfly check valves have inlet and outlet channels perpendicular to the valve seat channel; vertical lift check valves have inlet and outlet channels in the same direction as the valve seat channel, with lower flow resistance than straight-through types. 2. Check valves where the disc rotates around a pin in the valve seat. Butterfly check valves have a simple structure, can only be installed on horizontal pipelines, and have relatively poor sealing.

3. Pipeline check valve: A valve where the disc slides along the centerline of the valve body. Pipeline check valves are a newly emerged type of valve, with small size, light weight, and good processing technology, representing one of the development directions of check valves. However, the fluid resistance coefficient is slightly larger than that of swing check valves.

4. Compression check valve: This type of valve is used for boiler feed water and steam shut-off, combining the functions of lift check valves and globe valves or angle valves.

In addition, there are some check valves not suitable for installation at pump outlets, such as foot valves, spring-type, Y-type, and other check valves.
